Dr. Ivo Matanov is an orthopaedic traumatologist in Sofia with a leading professional focus on modern arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee. His practice focuses primarily on the treatment of degenerative and traumatic tears of the tendons forming the rotator cuff of the shoulder, acute and chronic pain syndromes in the shoulder area, sports injuries, stabilisation of recurrent shoulder dislocations, and degenerative and sports-related injuries of the knee, including anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus injuries. Dr. Matanov does not examine children.

Education

He graduated from Sofia University in 2019. He acquired his specialty in Orthopaedics and Traumatology in 2025 after specialising in the team of Associate Professor Rusimov at Vita Hospital.

Qualifications

• Member of the Bulgarian Orthopaedic and Traumatology Association and the Bulgarian Medical Association;
• Participation in congresses and specialty seminars in Bulgaria and abroad. Participation in arthroscopy courses in Utrecht, the Netherlands, Bangalore, India, and Chennai, India.

Biography

During his university studies, Dr. Matanov worked in the paediatric cardiac intensive care unit at the National Cardiology Hospital and volunteered in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at St. Anna University Hospital Sofia. Since 2020, he has been part of Associate Professor Vladimir Rusimov’s team at the Clinic of Arthroscopic Traumatology at the Military Medical Academy Sofia as a resident and first assistant, and is currently at Vita Hospital. He is also part of the specialist teams at MC MedFit and MC Dr. Lyudmil Dimitrov Sofia.
